The Operational Intelligence Platform
The problem isn't the machine,
it's the data that doesn't flow.
Any operational data source. One single data model.
One single truth.
arteMES connects machines, vehicles, energy and business software into one single operational data model. It turns information that is separate today into shared KPIs, analyses and decisions, without replacing existing equipment and systems. It is a subscription service, accessible even to companies that could not afford the cost and complexity of traditional solutions.

arteMES One single operational truth
The problem you have
Every day your factory
produces less than it could.

It isn't machines or people that are missing. What's missing is visibility into where efficiency and margin are being lost.

The data exists, but it stays trapped inside machines, PLCs and the ERP. It does not flow, and therefore it does not drive decisions.

What happens without visibility
  • Unplanned downtime discovered only when the machine stops
  • Real job-order costs unknown until month-end (or never)
  • Invisible inefficiencies eroding margin every day
  • Information scattered across machines, ERP and Excel sheets — never correlated
The answer
For the first time, your operational
data drives your decisions.

Real-time data from production, logistics, energy and business processes. One single operational model, accessible through shared dashboards and analyses. No replacement of existing equipment.

Every source is normalized into a common format: from there come analyses and KPIs that are comparable across different domains.

What actually changes
  • Integrated operational visibility: you know where time, energy and margin are lost — in real time
  • Real cost per job order calculated from production data, not estimated
  • Downtime and anomalies detected immediately, before their impact spreads
Pilot-ready
in weeks
from a single machine
or pilot line
Scalable
for years
the model grows
with your operations
Nothing

machines, PLCs and systems
stay untouched

Do you know what time your machines stop?

Many recurring stops cluster around the same moments: shift start, setup, job changeover or operator change. If you don’t measure it, you can’t act on it.

What is the real cost of the last order you delivered?

Not the quote — the true final cost, including actual machine time, rework and downtime. Yet that is the figure that would change every pricing decision.

Do you know where flow stalls between one operation and the next?

The bottleneck is rarely the slowest machine. It is often the waiting between phases — invisible in reports, obvious in the data.

Verticals & Flexibility · Page 2 of 11 Industries
Every industry has its own language.
arteMES already speaks it.
Verticals are a starting point, not a constraint: the industries listed here show where arteMES is already up and running, not the limits of what it can read. The real value is not in any single vertical — it is in the ability to combine different domains: production with logistics, energy with quality, procurement with shipping.
Operational Intelligence Platform

Every manufacturing company operates across distinct domains — production, logistics, procurement, energy, quality, shipping. They rarely talk to each other. arteMES connects them into one single operational data model, turning scattered information into one single operational truth to decide on.

Name What it does Who it matters to
arteMES The platform. Everything else lives inside it: it acquires data from machines and business systems, normalizes it and correlates it. Everyone
aSkimmer It makes machines talk. The prefix indicates the protocol: opcSkimmer for OPC-UA, cncSkimmer for numerical controls, j1939Skimmer for diesel vehicles, and so on. If the protocol is not in the library, the module gets built. Those who know the machines
aOperator What the operator sees at the machine: status, alarms, job queue. Production
aOrchestrator The platform that guarantees data exchange between systems: the moderator. IT
aiCounsel The artificial-intelligence modules that read the data already collected and derive analyses and anomalies from it. Management
aHub · aCloud The ICT platform in Switzerland: company-owned datacenter and private cloud the system runs on. IT and compliance

If you remember only one, remember aSkimmer: it is the one that decides whether your machines can be connected — and the answer, barring rare cases, is yes. The following pages go into detail on each component: you can read them all, or pass them to whoever runs production and IT in your company.

Key features
  • Real-time monitoring: live OEE, cycle times, machine states
  • Production order management: sequences, work orders, operating instructions
  • Event & alarm management: detect, prioritize, respond in seconds
  • Quality control: in-process checks, spec monitoring, defect reduction
  • Resource allocation: machines, tooling, labor, always optimized
  • Performance analysis: bottleneck identification, continuous improvement
  • Full traceability & genealogy: batch-level history for compliance & QA
Middleware: aOrchestrator
aOrchestrator: Data in motion.
Real time
Machine states, priorities and alarms are processed as they happen, not at the end of the shift.
Persistent log
Every message becomes historical data: it is the official production log, queryable over time.
Custom events
Quality checks, maintenance triggers and logic specific to your process fire on their own, with no one having to remember them.
Operators: aOperator
aOperator: Your shop floor,
always with you.

An operational interface that puts real-time machine data, alarms and job queues directly into the hands of the people doing the work. With the "virtual factory" concept, each operator autonomously manages their own set of machines: more ownership, faster responses, and a team that always knows what is going on.

Universal IIoT connectivity
aSkimmer: connect
everything. Change nothing.

aSkimmer is arteMES's family of IIoT adapters. The concept is simple: every machine has a language — a protocol, a bus, a database, a signal. aSkimmer speaks it natively, without modifying the PLC, without stopping production, without replacing anything.

How the aSkimmer model works
  • Ready-made standard modules: a growing library of certified adapters covers the most widespread protocols and manufacturers in global manufacturing.
  • Modular architecture: each skimmer is independent. They are added progressively, with no impact on the rest of the system.
  • Plug & measure: from connection to data in arteMES in hours, not weeks. No reprogramming, no additional gateway in most cases.
  • If it doesn't exist, we build it: protocol not in the library? aqumo develops the module to spec. The architecture is open and documented — the new skimmer becomes standard for every customer who benefits from it.

The full catalog of available skimmers — industrial protocols, mobile & diesel, energy, sustainability and vision — is on the next page.

Sustainability: nrgSkimmer
Energy data.
ISO 50001. Zero downtime.

An IIoT energy-metering device that installs on any machine without interrupting production. Data flows directly into the energy-management software, meeting ESG requirements and the sustainability pillar of Industry 5.0.

The “no machine left behind” promise

Most traditional platforms require Industry 4.0-ready machines. aSkimmer has no such prerequisite. Whether your shop floor is brand new or a mix of decades of investment, every machine becomes a data source integrated into an ultra-modern ecosystem.

Can't find what you're looking for? We build it just for you.

Every machine speaks a language: some standard, others niche industrial dialects. If it's not in the library, aqumo develops the adapter to spec. Send us the make and model of the machine you think is impossible to connect — we'll tell you whether it connects, with which adapter and what we can measure on it. No commitment: it's a technical check, not a negotiation.

🔧 Example: Trumpf TruMatic laser punch press
Problem: the TruMatic uses the proprietary TruTops Monitor API protocol — not covered by any standard skimmer.
Request: the customer commissions the trumpfSkimmer module from aqumo — developed, tested and certified in 6 weeks.
Result: live OEE on the press, integrated into the arteMES dashboard alongside all the other machines.
OEE · Page 6 of 11 OEE
OEE: not a goal,
the first visible result.
When all operational data flows into one single model, OEE emerges on its own — precise, in real time, on every machine. It is not arteMES's product: it is the first proof that the system works. Everything else revolves around it.
What OEE is
How much does your plant
really deliver?

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is the worldwide standard for measuring how much a machine delivers against its potential. It combines three factors into a single percentage: how long the machine is running, how fast it produces, and how many good parts it makes.

The problem for SMEs is not lacking OEE: it is not knowing it. Without a system that computes it automatically, every lost point stays invisible, and every lost point is margin walking out the door every day.

The formula

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

Each factor measures a different type of loss. Their product is the plant's real overall efficiency.

The three factors
Where efficiency
gets lost.
Availability

How long the machine is actually running. It drops with breakdowns, long setups, stoppages and unplanned maintenance.

Performance

Whether the machine produces at the expected speed. It drops with slowdowns, micro-stops and cycles slower than nominal.

Quality

How many good parts come out of the total produced. It drops with scrap, rework and process defects.

Why it matters to you

In manufacturing, average SME OEE is commonly estimated below 60%, against an excellence benchmark of 85%. That gap (often 20–25 points) is production already paid for in machines, energy and labor, but never realized. arteMES makes visible where it is lost and what recovering it is worth, usually with no investment in new machines: just by making better use of the ones you already have.

The 6 losses that lower OEE
Factor # Loss Impact
Disponibilità 1 Unexpected breakdowns Stops everything, acute cost
Disponibilità 2 Setups and changeovers Paid time with no output
Performance 3 Micro-stops Invisible without IIoT
Performance 4 Slowdowns Actual cycle > theoretical cycle
Qualità 5 Startup scrap First batch always at risk
Qualità 6 Production scrap Lost material and time
The hidden factor
Systems in place.
Not correlated.

OEE also drops due to an often overlooked factor: systems that are in place but not correlated with each other.

A programming tool used only for the simple jobs, planning software ignored in favor of a spreadsheet: these scenarios degrade OEE exactly like a breakdown does, except they are much harder to see.

How arteMES steps in

arteMES does not replace the specialist software already in place. It measures it: it detects whether it is being used to its potential, correlating usage with real production results. If a tool creates bottlenecks, OEE says so, before it becomes a chronic problem.

And if the software isn't there

For the areas not covered by dedicated software, arteMES provides complementary AI tools that fill the gap without requiring additional investment. They are not specialist solutions, but for an SME that today handles those functions with Excel or not at all, they are often more than enough.

aiCounsel · Page 7 of 11 Analysis
aiCounsel: AI that works
on your process, not in general.
Once operational data exists and is correlated, it becomes possible to read it more deeply. aiCounsel is the set of modules that do this work: they cover the areas where the company has no dedicated software and reduce the manual work someone does by hand today. The heart of arteMES remains OEE: aiCounsel adds context to it.
How aiCounsel works: modules built on your real process

aiCounsel is not a generic collection of AI tools. Its use starts from analyzing the company’s production processes: when an operational gap emerges, a phase still handled manually or a point where data is not being used properly, a specific module is designed.

Each module is trained on the company’s real context:

› types of machining operations
› available machines
› shop-floor logic
› technical documentation
› production history
› operating practices already in use

The goal is not to replace people or specialist software, but to cut repetitive work, speed up analysis and support decisions that improve OEE, without changing the way the shop floor works.

1. The gap is identified

A process phase is slow, manual, unmeasured, or depends too much on the experience of individual people.

2. The module is built

The AI is trained on the data, documents and operating rules of the specific production environment.

3. The impact is measured

The module is connected to the platform flow to verify whether it reduces time, errors, downtime or inefficiencies.

The modules shown are real application examples

technicalAnalysis, productionAnalysis and gCodeGeneration are examples of modules developed for needs that emerged in specific production contexts. In other companies, aiCounsel can take different forms: quality assistant, maintenance support, cost analysis, technical-documentation retrieval, anomaly monitoring or other tools built around the real process.

Module 1
aiCounsel → technicalAnalysis

Given a technical drawing and a production order, aiCounsel reads geometry, tolerances, materials and notes to produce a complete feasibility document with risk assessment, setup-time estimates, critical dimensions, GD&T analysis and a list of open points. Before the first chip falls, you have time to act.

What the document covers
  • Part identification: functional reading of the drawing, material, geometry, weight
  • Critical tolerances: risk-level flagging and recommended inspection method
  • Threads & holes: threads identified with applicable standard and inspection method
  • Setup-time estimate: machine-by-machine detail, calibrated on historical data
  • Open-points list: items requiring clarification before starting
Module 2
aiCounsel → productionAnalysis

For every closed production order, aiCounsel reads the data generated by the platform, the orders and the pricing information, and generates a complete post-run analysis of phases, times, costs, KPIs and anomalies. Discover in seconds the profitability of every job, without entering data manually.

What the document covers
  • Cycle-time analysis: measured vs. standard cycle; cross-checked against historical cycles to detect regressions or improvements
  • Cost breakdown: setup, production labor and material cost estimated from production data
  • KPI dashboard: OEE, efficiency, scrap, anomaly counts — computed, not entered manually
  • Shipped vs. ordered: delivery-note quantities verified against the order
  • Action plan: corrective actions prioritized with owner and urgency, generated by the AI
Module 3
NEW
aiCounsel → gCodeGeneration

Starting from the technical drawing, aiCounsel can automatically prepare a first version of the machine program, already structured to cover most of the CNC programmer’s repetitive work. The goal is not to replace CAM, designers or operators, but to cut the time needed to reach a program that can be validated and is production-ready.

What the module generates
  • Optimized G-code: toolpaths computed on the drawing’s real geometry, with roughing and finishing strategies
  • Cutting parameters: speeds, feeds and depths of cut calibrated to the material and the target machine
  • Tool management: required tool list with offsets and change sequence
  • NC-control compatibility: output adapted to the machine’s G-code dialect (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, Mazak)
Platform Architecture · Page 8 of 11 Technology
One single platform connects every single machine.
It integrates with what you already have.
From the Swiss private cloud to the oldest PLC on your shop floor: arteMES connects them all.
The Complete Stack
arteMES:
An architecture built to last

arteMES is a complete platform of infrastructure and IT services. Unlike point solutions that solve one problem and create three more, every application layer is designed to work in synergy, from the data centre to the tablet in your operator's hands.

🏗️
aHub & aCloud: Your secure environment
Cloud infrastructure and data center managed by aqumo, located in Switzerland. Your data always stays under your control, with security, continuous monitoring and full regulatory compliance. You never have to deal with servers, maintenance or updates.
🔗
aIntegrator: Systems working together
ERP, machines and shop-floor software are often not connected to each other. aIntegrator gets them talking without replacing them and without disrupting what already works. Data flows automatically between systems, eliminating manual entry, errors and misalignments.
⚙️
arteMES + aSkimmer: Real-time shop-floor control
All of production under control, in real time. Machines get connected regardless of age or brand, and the data becomes immediately available: order progress, equipment status, performance and full traceability.
👤
aOperator + nrgSkimmer: Tools for the people in the factory
Simple, intuitive interfaces for operators and production managers. All the useful information is available on a tablet, along with ISO 50001-ready energy monitoring, with no production stop for installation.
🧠
aiCounsel: Automatic data analysis
The collected data does not stay just numbers: it is analyzed automatically. For every production order you get clear reports on costs, performance, critical issues and improvement opportunities, with no need for external tools or data-analysis skills.
Typical implementation timeline
  • Weeks 1–2: Discovery workshop + machine & ERP inventory
  • Weeks 3–4: Single-line pilot live, first OEE dashboard, ERP order sync active
  • Months 2–3: Full plant rollout
  • Month 6: ROI already measurable
ICaaS: Compliance as a Service
Industry 4.0 and 5.0 capabilities
are no longer a luxury.

Industry 4.0/5.0 compliance is not a destination, it is a moving target. Standards evolve, regulations tighten, and what was 'compliant' last year may not be enough tomorrow. Keeping up requires continuous investment in skills, certifications and platform updates that most SMEs cannot sustain in-house. arteMES removes this burden entirely, operating as Industry Compliance as a Service (ICaaS): we track the standards, we update the platform, and you focus on what you do best: producing.

Why the private cloud matters for DACH & Italy
  • Data stored in Switzerland, not on US hyperscaler infrastructure
  • Full GDPR (EU) and Swiss nFADP compliance, certified
  • Company intellectual property and production data are protected with no margin of legal uncertainty.
  • The service virtually never stops (99.9%). And if something goes wrong, you have a dedicated team looking after you directly, not just another call-center number.
Legacy Modernization
Connect the Old.
Zero Capex. Zero Replacements.

Plants with 20-year-old CNC machines, analog PLCs or equipment storing data in local SQL databases can all join the IIoT ecosystem, today. aIntegrator and the aSkimmer family eliminate the false choice between "modernizing" and "affording it".

Three machine-connectivity paths
  • Native protocol: OPC/UA, FANUC FOCAS, Siemens S7, Modbus, MTConnect, PROFINET
  • Analog retrofit: ardSkimmer reads the electrical signals, no changes to the PLC
  • Database bridge: dbSkimmer reads existing SQL/CSV/text sources directly
ERP integration via aIntegrator Multi-protocol

arteMES connects to your ERP, new or legacy, via aIntegrator, aqumo's proprietary integration platform. Production orders come in automatically from the ERP; as-run data, real costs and traceability records flow back. No double keying. No manual re-entry.

  • SAP (all versions, incl. R/3): orders, customers, items, ...
  • Microsoft Dynamics (AX, NAV, BC): SQL or REST/OData integration
  • Zucchetti / Gamma: SQL or file integration
  • Teamsystem, Sage, Pantheon: CSV/XML or SQL integration
  • Custom / legacy ERP: any system exposing a database or other format: aIntegrator reads and syncs automatically

Stacking with national and regional grants is possible within the aid-intensity limits set by European rules — aqumo verifies the optimal combination for each project.

🤝 aqumo as your funding partner

We maintain an up-to-date proprietary database of European, national, regional and sector-specific calls. An AI-based platform matches your company's profile and the project's actual cost items against each instrument's requirements, and identifies the compatible combinations.

The numbers, however, are not estimated by the model: the amounts are computed by deterministic code, from the coverage percentages and caps declared by the call, applying stacking rules and thresholds.

The project is designed knowing the rules. Your accountant remains the expert.

We do not bend the project to fit the call: the scope comes from the operational assessment. But every cost item has a nature — tangible asset, intangible license, digitalization, training — and it is that classification, not the amount, that determines what is eligible. It must be distinguished from the quote onward, while the project is still taking shape.

Your tax advisor remains the fiscal counterpart — they know the company's position and take responsibility for it. We hand them the technical work they would otherwise have to reconstruct on their own: compatible instruments, eligible expenses and their category, what is confirmed and what needs checking, what must be done before the order and what before the application.

This does not guarantee funding — it depends on company, region, industry code and project — but it makes the application easier to prepare and easier to defend.

Designed for SMEs
Operate like the big players.
Without unsustainable costs.

Until yesterday, the most advanced systems were accessible only to large companies, with high investment and complex projects. That is no longer the case. aqumo makes these technologies available to SMEs too, simply and sustainably. arteMES delivers real-time control, IIoT connectivity and advanced tools to improve production performance, all as a subscription service, with no upfront investment and a fast start — even within days.

Traditional: CAPEX
  • Upfront license €50K–500K

  • Dedicated IT staff required
  • Server hardware investment
  • High financial risk in case of delays
aqumo ICaaS: Service
  • Subscription with predictable costs
  • Live in 2 weeks
  • Fully managed, zero IT burden
  • Private cloud, no hardware / software needed
  • Cancel whenever you want — the decision is yours alone
A level playing field for SMEs / KMU

SMEs account for 99% of manufacturing companies in CH, DE and IT, yet most solutions are designed for the remaining 1%. With aqumo, a company of 20 people has access to the same OEE dashboards, IIoT connectivity and Industry 5.0 roadmap as a 500-person company. No million-euro projects, no years of waiting, no dedicated IT department required.

arteMES · Page 11 of 11 Operational Intelligence
Your factory is already talking.
Are you listening?
Every machine, every vehicle, every meter generates data every day. arteMES turns it into one single operational truth.
💡
If you don't know the answer, the data probably already exists.
It just has to start flowing.

The next step is not buying software. It is understanding where you are losing margin.

Machines, people, energy, logistics and business systems tell the same story every day from different points of view. Our job is to turn it into one single operational truth.

Margin
Do you know why one job order
really pays off — and another doesn’t?
The true final cost of an order includes actual machine time, rework and downtime. Most owners don’t know it until month-end.
Performance
Do you know which machine generates
the most margin per working hour?
Not all machines are equal. Some produce margin, others erode it. Without data, the difference is invisible.
Downtime
Do you know what a 15-minute stop
costs, in real euros?
A stop is not just lost time. It is operator cost, machine cost, delivery delay, stress on the next shift.
Logistics
Do you know how much internal
logistics weighs on cycle time?
Forklifts, AGVs and material handling never show up in production reports. Yet they are often the real bottleneck.
Energy
Do you know how many kWh it takes
to produce one part?
Energy cost per part is one of the most requested ESG KPIs today. And one of the hardest to calculate without real-time data.
Visibility
Which piece of data
can’t you see today?
The data that would change your decisions already exists. It is trapped inside the machines, the PLC, the ERP. It is not flowing.
Knowledge
If you lose your best technician tomorrow, do you know where the factory’s knowledge lives?
In factories without data, operational knowledge lives in people’s heads. When those people leave, the knowledge leaves with them.
Energy
Do you know which switched-on machines are consuming power while producing nothing?
The energy bill arrives at month-end. The wasted consumption happens every day, often at night or between shifts.
Why act today
Volatile energy costs
If you don’t measure consumption per part, you don’t know how much you lose with every tariff change.
📉
Margins under pressure
Producing more with the same assets is the only lever that doesn’t depend on the market.
👷
Hard-to-find staff
Finding qualified technicians is getting harder. Knowledge can’t stay only in their heads.
🌱
ESG obligations
Energy and environmental reporting is no longer optional. You need the data, not an estimate.
🏭
Same assets, more output
New investments are expensive and slow. Recovering efficiency from what you already have is faster and measurable.
